God has a bad reputation. God has been blamed for all manner of tragedy, suffering, and wars. The blessing and friendship of God have been claimed by some of our worst villains, most sordid politicians, and more than a handful of abusive clerics as they attempt to validate their twisted perspectives. We've attached God to economic systems, scientific dilemmas, and personal crises that have far more to do with our human choices than with divine intent. It's time to be honest about how instructive and destructive our language about the Divine can be. It's time to take responsibility for our own crap and clean up God's undeserved bad reputation.
