Most people assume God is looking for someone better. Someone whose past is cleaner, whose faith is steadier, whose résumé is more impressive. The Bible doesn't agree.
Moses was a fugitive. Gideon was hiding in a hole. Esther was terrified. Ruth was a foreign widow with nothing to offer. Nehemiah was a servant. Deborah stepped forward when no one else would. Joseph went from the pit to the prison before he ever saw a palace. David was forgotten in a field when Samuel came looking. God used all of them anyway.
Pastor Greg Appleby traces this pattern across eight Old Testament lives in
When Ordinary Becomes Extraordinary. The evidence is hard to argue with: God has never required impressive people, only available ones. This book is for anyone who has quietly decided God must be looking for someone else.
